We are very happy to announce our second solo exhibition at Galerie Reinhard Hauff in Stuttgart. Poems for Infrastructure will run from September 23rd till November 3rd.
Galerie Reinhard Hauff is delighted to announce POEMS FOR INFRASTRUCTURE, the second solo show by Oslo-based artist duo LELLO//ARNELL. Jørgen Craig Lello & Tobias Arnell have collaborated since 2003 and use logically broken trains of thought, false statements and fictional scenarios in their examination of how the world is interpreted and understood. Addressing the concept of the world view is a prime focus of their conceptual project.
A common framework for how to look at the world is essential to maintain a functioning relationship, collaboration or, for that matter, civilization. The infrastructure supporting our systems remains hidden and unknown so far as it is not left to erode and crack open at the seams.
In this, a time where the plasticity of truth and the real has transitioned into a near fluid state, the artists have upturned their practice, perhaps attempting to locate the intangible framework – even the soul – of their oeuvre. Shocked into introspection, a futile and almost maniacal procedure has been undertaken, where earlier artworks and components thereof, material samples and surplus supply as well as arbitrary objects from the artists' studio have been examined and processed. Each item has been photographed and catalogued, then deconstructed and reprocessed before, finally, being mounted on Valchromat boards and archived.
Paralleling this body of work with the crisis of the Western, global capitalist democracy might be grossly overreaching. Poems for Infrastructure is no political manuscript – no visual manifesto for an era of doubt and uncertainty. It is, however, a work of praise for the frameworks, a celebration of the infrastructure for artistic and civilizatory collaboration alike.
LELLO//ARNELL (Jørgen Craig Lello & Tobias Arnell, *1978) have exhibited widely across Europe. Works by the artist duo have been acquired by a number of public and private collections, such as the Astrup Fearnley Museum of Modern Art in Oslo, the Sørlandet Art Museum (SKMU) in Kristiansand, the International Centre of Graphic Arts (MGLC) in Ljubljana/Slowenia and the Statoil Art Collection.
